Step into the world of bonsai — a centuries-old art form that has taken root in Singapore’s Garden City identity.
In this immersive cultural workshop, participants will explore the fascinating journey of bonsai from its Japanese origins to its place in Singapore’s landscapes, parks, and community gardens. Discover how bonsai artistry intertwines with our nation’s multicultural heritage, drawing influences from Chinese penjing traditions, Japanese aesthetics, and local horticultural practices.
Guided by local bonsai artisans from Crafted Identity, you’ll learn:
• The history and symbolism of bonsai in Asian and Singaporean culture
• How the art form evolved within our local heritage gardens and exhibitions
• The techniques to style and care for your own miniature tree
This is more than a hands-on activity — it’s a cultural storytelling experience where you’ll craft and bring home a living piece of heritage, keeping a timeless tradition alive in your own space.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will:
1. Understand the origins of bonsai and its adaptation into Singapore’s horticultural heritage.
2. Recognise the cultural symbolism and aesthetic principles behind bonsai design.
3. Apply basic bonsai styling; design, pruning, wiring, repotting and care techniques to create and maintain a miniature tree (10-15 cm).
4. Appreciate how nature, patience, and artistry are interwoven in heritage plant traditions.
What You’ll Learn from bonsai styling techniques:

• Pre-bonsai tropical tree (10-15cm tall)
• Bonsai pot
• Bonsai soil mix
• Crafting wire

Admission Rules
1. Booking Confirmation & Policy
•Once a booking is confirmed and payment is received, no cancellation, refund, or postponement is allowed under any circumstances.
•This policy ensures fair allocation of workshop slots and covers the advance preparation of materials, plants, and manpower.
2. No-Show Policy
•If you do not attend the workshop, your booking will be forfeited automatically.
•All materials prepared for your seat will be considered consumed, and no replacement session or refund will be arranged.
3. Substitution of Participant
•You may nominate another person to attend in your place at no additional charge, provided you notify us at least 24 hours before the workshop.
•Please provide the substitute’s full name and contact number via WhatsApp or email for our attendance record.
4. Punctuality
•Please arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start time for registration and briefing.
•Participants arriving more than 15 minutes late may be admitted at the instructor’s discretion to avoid disruption.
•No refund or partial refund will be given for late arrival or early departure.
5. Safety & Conduct
•All participants must handle bonsai tools with care and follow the instructor’s guidance during the session.
•No food, smoking, or disruptive behaviour is permitted during the session.
•Please maintain cleanliness in the workspace and respect shared materials and equipment.
6. Photography & Media
•Photos may be taken during the workshop for documentation or social media.
•By attending, participants consent to being photographed or filmed for promotional use by Crafted Identity, unless otherwise stated in writing.
7. Liability Disclaimer
•Participants attend at their own risk. Crafted Identity will not be liable for any injury, loss, or damage resulting from negligence, misuse of tools, or personal property brought to the venue.
