Discover the Art of Wabikusa: A Wabi Sabi Experience in Simplicity and Nature
Floating Wabikusa Workshop
A Wabi-Sabi Experience in Balance, Nature, and Serenity
Discover the Art of Wabikusa — the Japanese art of creating a living aquatic landscape that floats gracefully between water and air.
Rooted in the spirit of wabi-sabi — finding beauty in simplicity, imperfection, and impermanence — the Floating Wabikusa is a gentle expression of harmony between nature, time, and mindful creation. Each piece becomes a miniature world of balance: soil, moss, and aquatic plants coexisting in quiet unity.
In this hands-on workshop, guided by the team at Crafted Identity, you’ll learn how to craft your own floating Wabikusa — a lush moss sphere (5–7cm diameter) that drifts elegantly on water, resembling a small island of life and tranquility.
Through this immersive session, participants will explore not just technique, but also the cultural and philosophical roots of this craft — where gardening becomes meditation, and creation becomes care.
🌸 What You’ll Experience
• Discover the history and philosophy behind Wabikusa and its connection to Japanese aquatic art traditions.
• Learn the principles of wabi-sabi and how simplicity and imperfection create harmony.
• Craft your own floating moss ball using natural, sustainable materials.
• Select from a curated range of aquatic and semi-aquatic plants suited for emersed or submerged growth.
• Understand how to design, plant, and maintain your Wabikusa as a floating or aquatic terrarium-style landscape.
• Bring home care and setup guidance for long-term growth and well-being.
🌿 Why It’s Meaningful
The Floating Wabikusa embodies more than beauty — it represents balance in motion.
Each moss ball purifies water, nurtures biodiversity, and reflects a self-sustaining cycle of life.
As it floats and shifts gently with currents, it reminds us of calm adaptability and mindful coexistence with nature.
This experience invites reflection on the Japanese philosophy of shizen (自然) — living in natural rhythm — and offers a meditative way to slow down and reconnect with the present moment.
🌏 Sustainability in Practice
At Crafted Identity, we emphasize eco-conscious crafting:
• Natural, reusable moss and soil mixtures
• Local or nursery-sourced aquatic plants
• Biodegradable packaging for workshop materials
• Encouragement of long-term plant care instead of disposability
Every Wabikusa made becomes a living symbol of sustainable mindfulness — crafted once, nurtured for years.
