Step into a slower, greener world with Crafted Identity at Arts@JLG: heART x Gardeners’ Day Out 2026.
In collaboration with Jurong Lake Gardens, we invite you to experience the calming beauty of Japanese-inspired plant crafting through two specially curated beginner-friendly workshops — completely free for the public.
Whether you are curious about miniature trees, fascinated by living ecosystems, or simply looking for a meaningful hands-on activity surrounded by nature, these workshops are designed to let you reconnect with creativity, mindfulness, and the joy of making something alive with your own hands.
Participants may choose ONE workshop session to attend.
Workshop Options
1. Mini Bonsai “Prune & Shape” Workshop
🕐 11am-12pm
Discover the timeless art of bonsai through a guided hands-on pruning and shaping session.
Participants will work on a pre-bonsai plant approximately 15cm tall and learn how simple pruning and wiring techniques can transform a young plant into a miniature tree full of movement and character.
In this beginner-friendly session, you will:
• Learn basic bonsai pruning and shaping techniques
• Explore different bonsai styles and forms
• Understand simple bonsai care and maintenance
• Experience the calming and mindful nature of bonsai crafting
Each participant will bring home their own shaped mini bonsai creation.
Perfect for beginners, plant lovers, and anyone curious about the art of bonsai.
2. Introductory Wabikusa Terrarium Workshop
🕝 1pm-2pm
Create your own miniature living ecosystem inspired by the Japanese Wabikusa concept.
Wabikusa combines aquatic and terrestrial planting styles into a natural moss-covered arrangement that feels both wild and serene. In this workshop, participants will create a beginner-friendly Wabikusa terrarium using moss, aquatic plants, and handcrafted materials provided during the session.
In this guided workshop, you will:
• Build your own Wabikusa terrarium step-by-step
• Learn how water, moss, and plants create a living ecosystem
• Arrange a natural flowing composition inspired by nature
• Discover simple care techniques for your terrarium
No experience is needed — just come ready to create and explore.
Each participant will bring home their own living Wabikusa terrarium.
