Philodendron birkin

Philodendron ‘Birkin’ is a fast-growing, compact plant that produces leaves that emerge with white stripes and eventually fade to green. The more light it is exposed to, the more prominent the variegation gets, to the extent that some leaves may emerge completely white. For the long-term health of the plant, move it away from the light source if this happens.

Philodendron is the second largest genus in the Araceae family, commonly referred to as the Aroid family. The name is derived from Greek and means ‘tree-lover’, which refers to the typical growth habit of a philodendron, usually climbing a tree. They are sought after for the variety of leaf shapes and their leaves, when grown in the right conditions, can grow impressively large. Philodendrons make good houseplants as their epiphytic nature means they are adapted to a range of light conditions.
