Dionaea muscipula aka Venus Fly Trap (Mini)
Dionaea muscipula is the sole species in the Dionaea genus, commonly referred to as the Venus Flytrap. This best-seller of ours is an adorable plant that’s perfect for teaching young botanists about carnivorous plants. Originating from the subtropical wetlands in the United States, Venus Flytraps enjoy direct sunlight and lots of water.
Traps are triggered by struggling insects or arachnids, so place it in a spot where it can naturally catch its own prey, or feed it with bugs that are still alive. We do not recommend triggering traps without providing food as the mechanical ‘snapping’ uses up a lot of energy. There is no need to fertilise your Venus Flytrap as they are adapted to absorb their nutrients from their prey.
